Why Manitobans Love the Chevrolet Cruze

April 3rd, 2019 by

Manitobans love the 2019 Chevrolet Cruze. It’s a favourite not only because it is ranked in the top half of its class with a long list of standard features, but also because the car is very comfortable. It has a refined ride and roomy seats that are excellent for Manitoba commuters who are going to and from work.

With an exceptional fuel economy rating, and even better with diesel power, the Chevy Cruze is an excellent choice if you do a lot of highway driving. No matter where you go in Manitoba, you’ll find its front seats are supportive, and the car delivers a quiet and comfortable ride. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Place are standard apps that you’ll find at your fingertips when you’re carrying your Smartphone along with you.

Handsome new design

The Cruze features a handsomely designed cabin with an easy-to-use infotainment system that Manitobans will love. You’ll also find a large above-average sized trunk to accommodate everything you need for a trip to the far reaches of the province.

Chevrolet completely redesigned the Cruze back in 2016. In 2017, a hatchback body style was introduced along with a diesel engine option. That year also marked the introduction of the standard Teen Driver system. It helps encourage safe driving habits for teenagers by activating certain safety systems while your teenage son or daughter is driving.

In 2018, the Cruze hatchback became available with a diesel engine; and in 2019 the company extended the hatchback body to all but the base trim.

The Chevy Cruze is quite affordable with a starting price of less than CAN $24,000. With that amount, you can buy the sedan body style, a turbocharged gasoline engine, and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Hatchback versions run about $2,000 more, and a turbo diesel engine is also available.

Plenty of space

Your new Chevrolet Cruze can seat up to five Manitoban’s quite comfortably. Cloth upholstery is standard while options include leatherette upholstery, leather-trimmed seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.

Although finding enough space for a full load of adults can be a common struggle in most of today’s smaller cars, the Cruze handles this problem quite well. Legroom is substantial in both the front and rear and the front seats are well-cushioned.

Attractive interiors

The interior cabin of today’s Chevrolet Cruze is attractive and handsome. You’ll find soft-touch materials all over, and even the hard plastics are smooth and well-built so they don’t feel jarring. The standard touch-screen display also contributes to the modern feel of the Chevy Cruze.

If you have small children, the Chevrolet Cruze has two complete sets of LATCH connections designed to hold child car seats securely. They also serve as an additional upper tether anchor.

Additional available features

Your new Chevrolet Cruze can also come with an extraordinary set of accommodating feathers that are standard. All trim levels feature rear-view camera and the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. This includes a 7-inch touch-screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto Smartphone integration. Also included are a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.

The touch-screen is straight-forward and intuitive. It has crisp graphics and a very responsive interface. There are redundant knobs and controls that are easily accessible by the driver so he or she can keep their eyes on the road.

The base model trim in the Chevrolet Cruze is an excellent value with many useful features. But if you’re interested in a few extras, the LT model offers steering wheel-mounted audio, cruise controls, and split-folding rear seats. The Convenience Package adds heated front seats, remote start, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat. Also included is the Driver Confidence Package. It adds rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keep assist. The Sun and Sound package adds a sunroof and a nine-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Engine choices

The Chevy Cruze comes standard with a turbocharged gasoline engine with 153 horsepower. It’s mated to a highly-refined six-speed automatic transmission for smooth and effortless driving. There’s also an optional turbo diesel engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission available. This produces 137 horsepower but delivers higher fuel economy.

At normal everyday highway speeds, the Cruze is plenty capable. Its engine has the stop-start function which operates smoother than those found in the competition. Also, the turbodiesel is the most fuel-efficient powertrain in its lineup, reaching up to 31 mpg in the city and 48 mph on the highway. The turbocharged gasoline engine isn’t too far behind in the ratings. It earned an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in city driving and 38 on the highway.

Driving on Manitoba’s highways with the Chevrolet Cruze allows the car to really feel its oats. The steering responds to the lightest touch, the handling feels polished, and the suspension will smooth out rough pavement quite well to give you a most comfortable ride. The strong brakes in the Chevy Cruze and agility on winding roads and going around corners inject this car with a sporty feeling that you will enjoy.

Cargo space is 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats in the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback. This can be expanded to 47.2 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. With the L and LS editions, you’ll find 14.8 cubic feet of storage, while in the LT and Premier models, there are 13.9 cubic feet available.

Safety features

Standard safety features in the Chevy Cruze include a rearview camera, and Chevrolet’s Teen Driver Assist that lets you set car speed and infotainment volume control limits for other drivers.

Additional safety features are also available. These include:

  • lane departure warning
  • lane keep assist
  • automatic high beams
  • forward collision warning
  • rear parking sensors
  • blind spot monitoring
  • rear cross traffic alert
  • automatic emergency braking, and
  • following distance indicator (that helps you maintain a safe distance between your car and the vehicle ahead of you.)

The Chevrolet Cruze is a great value in an efficient compact car for Manitobans. It drives like a car that’s much larger, with comfortable front seats, roomy back seats, and a good-sized trunk. It’s available in sedan and hatchback body styles and is great for taking road trips and transporting any items you need along with you wherever you drive in the province.
